9:50 Sorry if this is personal haha, but as I’ve come to accept my autism I’ve also come to conclude that my bowel issues are most likely related to it. Is there a reason why autistic people have issues with their digestion? Is it solely because of our (at times, picky) diets, or is it just a thing that happens?

20:27 We just started dating about 2 weeks ago, before we even had kissed I told him that I didn’t like light touches, especially on my face, actually that I didn’t like that people touch my face at all (I still haven’t told him that I’m autistic). After we starting dating he proceeded to caress my face, he said that It was just to check if I didn’t like it, I said that I didn’t and removed his hand. I saw him yesterday and I feel like I want to break up already, he touched my face constantly and I had to removed it everytime, and everytime he said that he forgot. Not only that, he loves to touch me all the time, I can’t stand it, I don’t feel comfortable, and sometimes I don’t feel safe (we are gay). The thing is that I like him, sometimes I feel like I am the one that’s wrong because that’s been a problem in every relationship I’ve had.

29:10 Hello, my son can read flashcards, and can tell you the name of whatever you point out if he knows, but I can't understand why he can't express himself on his own. He has 4 words he said on his own.

31:32 I have a question as to therapies and services. My son was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD after 3 years finally and he is 7 everyone says early intervention and clearly he missed the early part.

My question is will he continue to benefit from services he is just now starting at such an older age??

38:53 Hi, my son is 9 yrs old autistic, he started saying few words in last six months. initially he had one word speech which regressed at 2yrs of age. is there any hope at this age that he will develop more speech and language?

41:20 Yes what he wants. Like want blueberries, want iPad, give hands etc. want yogurt.

46:00 Hi Dr. Doreen. My son has recently been telling me that he is unable to focus at all, especially in school. Are there ABA techniques to help with this? He is 11. This has happened more since he has had many changes at school. (His B.I. was just changed and also his therapist, right after coming back from Christmas break.) He keeps hitting his head saying he is stupid. He is frustrated with himself.

49:24 Would an ABA center based program be better than school where he gets zero one on one services? Could ADHD affect his ability to communicate and his academics?

49:19 Would an ABA center based program be better than school where he gets zero one on one services? Could ADHD affect his ability to communicate and his academics?

52:00 My parents are both on the Autism Spectrum and I would like to learn how to bridge the gap and better connect with them.

Autism Expert and pioneer in the field of Autism, Psychologist and BCBA, Dr. Doreen Granpeesheh is answers viewer questions! Dr. Doreen answers viewers questions about aggression, hitting, food selectivity and much more in this episode! Check it out!

6:32 My nine year old who has ADHD, PTSD and is on the spectrum is having such a hard time. We've missed almost a month of school due to Christmas break, snow days and covid. The slack of routine is sent him into a spiral. We're talking meltdowns at least every couple hours. Repeating the same sentences over and over again. We are working with a psychiatric nurse practitioner to get him further help. We're going to try occupational therapy for sensory overload. He's also on a blood pressure lowering medication that's supposed to help with sleep since he's up multiple times a night. We are also working on getting an official diagnosis. He sees a really good therapist but that also has been thrown out of whack due to the holidays and sickness. He lives with me, his step dad and our 4 other kids. I'm the only one who can remain patient and calm during his meltdowns. I'm exhausted. I'm grieving. I'm worried this is ruining my marriage.

19:30 Not sure if you already have your questions. I’m working with my son on reading with expression. He’s very good at imitating my facial features and body gestures when I read. Our issue is he OVERLY exaggerates me to the point where it just looks awkward. I’m so proud of him because he definitely understands it but how would I get him to tone it down a little? I do praise him after because he’s doing a great job. I just don’t know if we should continue. I’m hoping working on prosody will lead to better reading comprehension.

23:55 Hello . Could you please share what goals related to daily life skill we can add in the IEP. (Elementary School Level)

27:50 hello everyone here is my question. what are some great resources for grief? I know that grief is a hard issue to talk about and since the pandemic is still going on. a good friends sister died I didn't know the sister but the death inspired me to ask the question. what are some good resources for people on the spectrum on grief

31:26 Hi, I wanted to ask how I can help my son with math. He’s 11 and very smart, he can read and write he’s very verbal, he can express if his in pain and all needs and wants, but I feel like the math. Part is just so hard for him, he still can’t count to 100 by himself. But he can tell if someone was mean to him and can also have an argument with myself or his dad when he’s upset. He has amazing Skills but I’m starting to think math is just one of his week ESS. But would like to help him because I feel he can learn it, been that he’s so verbal and smart, please help. And thank you in advance.

38:05 Hello and thank you both for this opportunity! My son will be 8 in 2 weeks. He eats a handful of foods. He eats baked chips, peanut butter pretzels, and for dinner a vegan grilled cheese… ..I use the reward system with him. He also drinks watered down green smoothies. I can’t get him to stop gagging at new foods. Any tips are appreciated! I’ve been watching all the videos on eating and trying to follow those directions. Thank you both!

45:59 Hi! If you are taking questions I would an advice on my dilemma. I have 3 grandchildren living with me. My youngest grandson is 12 and he is on the spectrum. He has come such along way being diagnosed at the age of four years old. Byron was non-verbal, head banger, with several meltdowns daily to now he is high functioning in the sense that he is verbal, smart and is artistic. We have had awesome help along the way. With therapist in ABA, counseling and CLS(Community Living Support workers).

58:00 My son is 4 years old and becomes aggressive when he cannot express himself. What techniques do you suggest we use to get him to be less aggressive? This is his first year in preschool around other children outside of his sisters at home. At first it was when other children invaded his space but now when he gets frustrated, he's beginning to lash out at other children.

5:38 Ask an Autism Expert

How can I get my child to show interest in something other than their limited interests?

8:15 Food Selectivity

he eats nothing. because of his sensitivity, he eats 10 menu items

grilled cheese, peanut butter sandwich (on brown bread), nutella sandwich, banana bread, a slice of apple not more, hummus on naan bread (not by choice), ensure calorie plus, milk, chocolate cake (on birthday only), mini drinkable yogurts, chicken soup ramen noodles. That’s it.

28:36 My son is 13, but somehow I have been fighting the food selectivity battle for 113,574,576 years.

32:16 It literally comes down to my son smelling a cracker, licking it, knowing the difference in brand or type. Like a supersonic sense.

His loss of foods is based on experiences. For example, going through divorce and being forced to stay with his Dad, who had never cared for him before. Bad experience, lost 5 foods, list his juice that we used to put his vitamins into.

34:43 My kid just ate asparagus last night. Seriously. I would have never thought that were possible before.

38:12 Any advice on a child who will only eat one of vegetable which is green beans?

40:26 Hi Dr Doreen, I'm new immigrant single father with my autistic 8 years son I'm concerned will I be able to work full time job when I arrive to state with my autistic son ? or only I can work during school time?

44:05 How do I go about limiting my son’s Ipad time?

52:00 I'm a BCBA and I've been following Autism Live since I was studying for my RBT certification. I started with "Jargon of the Day" :)

wanted to recognize the incredible work you do on providing a compassionate way to understand neurodiversity. thank you

52:40 My 3 year old has been diagnosed and I have been given an ABA prescription for 30 hours a week but the ABA service provider can only provide 20 hours a week. Would 20 hours be enough?
